The new Whitson Bridge is open!
Finally after all this time, they have finally got the bridge done. It is not 100% complete, but it is enough for them to open.
I was there Saturday evening as they were removing the Road Closed signs and I asked if they were done. The guy said "I guess it is officially open, we are through".
It did not take me long to drive across, I know I was not the 1st, but if you don't county the county trucks and ATV's then it's first in my book!
A little background
The original bridge was broken by heavy equipment in May of 1989.
The replacement, a wooden bridge, was started in August of 1993.
The replacement was burned on January 15, 2017. A group of teens from County high were having a party under the bridge and decided it was a good idea to throw a Christmas tree onto a fire. The fire spread from there to the timbers of the bridge.
The lose of the bridge caused a 12 mile detour from 2017 until 2020.
On Saturday I was crossed the bridge again to visit family and we saw one ATV making a new path to the river under the bridge and another cutting doughnuts on the bridge.
I guess this is why we can't have good things in the county.
